Crete is one of Greece 's most breathtaking islands. On the eastern shore of Crete lies one of the most magnificent hotels, the Elounda Gulf Villa and Suites. The top villas come equipped with a private pool, Jacuzzi and sauna, full kitchens and fireplaces. The suites offer excellent personalized service and elegant, beautifully furnished rooms. All rooms at the Elounda are air-conditioned and all have high speed Internet and balconies.

You can choose to spend your days nestled in your quarters or you can set out to explore the island. Numerous activities are close by including horse riding, sailing, mountain biking and scuba diving to name a few. For fine dining, you need not look any further than the Elounda. The à-la-carte restaurant offers a variety of menu selections. You can choose from a mouth-watering selection of both traditional and international dishes.

Crete is well known for its archaeological abundance. Places like Knossos , Phaistos, Rethymno are popular tourist attractions. There are many Byzantine churches and some monasteries to explore. Crete 's local food is outstanding; Graviera, a hard cheese, melts in your mouth, escargot is part of the staple diet and sardines aren't just the poor man's delicacy anymore. Four thousand years of wine production on Crete has perfected their locally processed wines - a trip to the vineyard and wine tasting excursions are a fantastic way to while away an afternoon. Most vineyards also make their own cold pressed olive oil. The weather is usually very good with only about 60 rain days a year. In the major cities most people speak English.

A couple of locally run tours are well worth the time:

  • The Day Tour to Samaria Gorge is a bit of a hike, but the view is outstanding. It's not Victoria Falls, but the Libyan Sea and the longest gorge in Europe are breathtaking.
  • The Crete Night Dinner Show is truly a great night out filled with local customs and charm. For the adventurous you can participate in the dances, but it is not necessary.
